The Disaster Communications Service prides itself in its ongoing training efforts. Below you will find the training materials that will allow you to refresh your skill set and continue your education in disaster preparedness and relief response.
EQUIPMENT
Over the years we have found that there is essential equipment and items that you would want to have during a deployment. We call your equipment bag your 'Go Bag' and we have two types; the 'Light Duty Go Bag' and the 'Extended Duty Go Bag'.
Law Enforcement and Fire Personnel can sometimes be hard to understand as they appear to be speaking their own language. In order to be more effective communicators we must learn their language and use it ourselves. We use the APCO Phonetics and Basic Ten Codes.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) offers online training through their Independent Study Program. We encourage our members to take courses to enhance their skill set. DCS Members must complete IS100 and IS700.
